Apple a day
A Memphis, Tenn., hos pital is confirming that Apple founder Steve Jobs received a liver transplant and that he has an “excel lent prognosis.” Dr. James D. Eason, program direc tor at Methodist Univer sity Hospital Transplant Institute and chief of transplantation, said Jobs was the sickest patient on the waiting list at the time a donor organ became available. He said Jobs is recovering well.
Huntsman
Chemicals maker Hunts man Corp. said yesterday it’s reached a $1.7 billion settlement with two banks over its accusation they schemed to scuttle a $6.5 billion buyout of the com pany last year. The agree ment with Switzerland’s Credit Suisse and Ger many’s Deutsche Bank ends a trial in Texas state court on fraud charges.
GM cuts
GM has told its US white-collar workers that it plans to cut about 4,000 more jobs by the year-end on top of about 2,600 sala ried jobs cut this year.
Dollar down
The dollar fell by the most in six weeks against the euro, sending oil, gasoline, gold and sugar higher, amid spec ulation the Federal Re serve will temper expec tations for an interest- rate increase this year.
