Marts gain
The Dow Jones indus trial average rose 78.07, or 0.8 percent, to 9,864.94, its highest close since Oct. 6 of last year. The S&P 500 index rose 6.01, or 0.6 percent, to 1,071.49, while the Nasdaq com posite index rose 15.35, or 0.7 percent, to 2,139.28. For the week, the Dow rose 4 percent, its biggest gain since the week ended July 24.
BlackRock
BlackRock named Bank of America’s global wealth and in vestment management head Sallie Krawcheck to its board. Also named was BofA Trea surer Mark Linsz. They replace Brian Moyni han and Daniel Sontag.
YouTube hits
Google’s YouTube said it is recording more than 1 billion views a day. YouTube’s bandwidth has in creased along with the quality of videos shown on the site, Chad Hurley, the site’s CEO, said in a blog posting.
IBM shares
IBM rose the most in almost three months after Barclays Capital raised its share-price es timate for the company. The stock added $3.64, or 3 percent, to close at $125.93. Shares are up 50 percent this year.
GM ads
GM is looking for a new advertising agency for its Cadillac brand as it tries to reverse a sales slide. Cadillac ads had been handled by Mod ernista! since 2006. Ca dillac sales have dropped 44 percent this year — worse than the 29 per cent decline for Ford’s Lincoln unit.
