Stocks ended a holiday- shortened session at new highs for the year follow ing upbeat reports on un employment and durable goods orders. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 53.66 to 10,520.10. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose 5.89 to 1,126.48, while the Nasdaq rose 16.05 to 2,285.69.

Whole Foods

Whole Foods CEO John Mackey said he’ll give up his chairman’s title, a role he’s had since 1978, in a bid to embrace good cor porate governance stan dards. Lead Director John Elstrott will become chairman.

Dolan-dipping

Cablevision CEO Jim Dolan will be getting a second salary of $500,000, bonus and in centive awards after the company spins off its Madison Square Garden operations in next year’s first quarter and he be comes executive chair man of the spun-off com pany, a filing showed. Dolan’s contract with Ca blevision is for a $1.5 mil lion salary, bonuses and other compensation.

Zale plan
