Moore Capital reached a settlement with the US Commodity Futures Trading Com mission in its investiga tion into trading in the platinum and palladium futures markets by an individual who left Moore Capital in the fall of 2008. Terms were not announced. None of Moore’s princi pals nor any of its cu rent management were involved.

Good call

Motorola Inc., the larg est US mobile-phone maker, reported first- quarter net income was $69 million, or 3 cents a share, compared with a loss of $231 million, or 10 cents, a year earlier. Sales fell 6.1 percent to $5.04 billion.

Claims down

Applications for un employment benefits dropped by 11,000 to 448,000 last week, the lowest level in four weeks. It was the sec ond weekly drop in claims.

TW Cable up

Time Warner Cable reported first-quarter net income climbed to $214 million, or 60 cents a share, compared with $164 million, or 48 cents a year earlier. Revenue jumped 5.4 percent to $4.6 billion.
