Stocks up
US stocks rose yester day, led by a late surge in technology shares. The Dow Jones industrial av erage rose 5.74 points, or 0.06 percent, to 10,255.28. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index was up 4.44 points, or 0.40 percent, to 1,102.83 and the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 21.96 points, or 0.96 per cent, to 2,303.03.
Jobless claims
Initial jobless claims dropped by 10,000 to 453,000 in the week ended May 29, Labor De partment figures showed, as private employers added 55,000 jobs last month, an ADP employer report said.
Tablet talk
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, speaking at the All Things Digital Con ference, said technology spending by businesses is rebounding and called the transition from PCs to smart phones and tablets a time of “potential tu mult” in the technology industry.
Leases surge
Manhattan office ten ants leased 2.6 million square feet in May, the largest amount since September 2006 before the financial crisis, according to a report by real estate services company Cushman & Wakefield.
