The Justice Dept. lawsuit seeking to block AT&T’s acquisition of T-Mobile USA was joined by seven states, including New York, as their attorneys general said the $39 billion deal would hurt competition.
Rakoff rules
US District Judge Jed Rakoff ruled that he, rather than a bankruptcy judge, will decide whether the trustee for Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities has the right to sue customers for recovery of so-called fictitious profits.

RIM losers
Research in Motion co-CEOs Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis, who each own about 5 percent of the BlackBerry maker, saw the value of their stakes drop to about $640 million from about $1.9 billion in February. RIM fell 19 percent to $23.93 yesterday.

Star bond investor Jeffrey Gundlach was awarded $66.7 million by a jury over his messy divorce from money management firm Trust Company of the West.
