Americans are feeling very generous this holiday season — especially toward themselves.

Self-gifting is at a 20-year high, with 42.6 percent of shoppers buying items for themselves as well as picking up goodies for family and friends, a survey by America’s Research Group on Tuesday discovered.

“Americans told us that they are [spending more] because they now believe after the election that things will get better,” said Britt Beemer, chairman of ARG, which tracks consumer buying trends.

Beemer described the bump as part of the “Trump effect” that has driven the stock markets to new highs.

Separately, 21 percent of shoppers said in December that they would spend more on the holidays this year, up from 16 percent in October, suggesting that consumer confidence may be rising, a second survey, by CivicScience, found.
