Cambridge Analytica said its board has suspended CEO Alexander Nix as it launches an internal probe into possible wrongdoing by the company.
The political data firm — at the center of a report last weekend saying it used the leaked data of 50 million Facebook users to attempt to sway the 2016 presidential election — announced the decision in a Tuesday press release.
A day earlier, Britain’s Channel 4 had released undercover video of Nix explaining that Cambridge Analytica regularly used sleazy tactics to sway elections.
In the video, Nix suggested going to crooked lengths, including using Ukrainian sex workers and cash bribes to entrap politicians.
“Mr. Nix’s recent comments secretly recorded by Channel 4 and other allegations do not represent the values or operations of the firm and his suspension reflects the seriousness with which we view this violation,” the board said in the statement.
Facebook said Friday it had suspended Cambridge Analytica from its platform, saying the firm had violated its policies on how third-parties can use its data.
