Charlie Brown in a toque?
The lovable loser, his pet, Snoopy, and the rest of the Peanuts gang are moving north — to Canada, it was announced on Wednesday.
Iconix Brand Group, a licensing firm that owns 80 percent of the Peanuts brand — as well as Strawberry Shortcake — sold the business to DHX Media of Halifax for $345 million.
DHX owns Teletubbies and other kids entertainment properties.
With the sale, New York-based Iconix is exiting the entertainment business and making a tidy profit to boot — it bought the 80 percent stake in Peanuts in 2010 for $175 million.
Over the seven years, Iconix produced the first-ever Peanuts feature film.
Debt-laden Iconix will use the proceeds to pay down $362 million in debt, it said.
“It’s a fair price and Peanuts belongs with DHX,” said a licensing expert. “They are a media house that knows how to produce shows.”
