New York investor Carl C. Icahn proposed to acquire cleaning-products producer Clorox for $76.50 a share, MarketWatch reported Friday.

In a Securities and Exchange Commission Form 13-D dated Thursday, Icahn said the investment bank Jefferies & Co. provided a letter saying that it was highly confident it would be able to arrange financing for the deal.

Icahn said in the filing that the deal was proposed to the chairman and chief executive of the Oakland, Calif.-based company, Donald R. Knauss.

Icahn added that he is Clorox’s largest holder, with 9.4 percent.

The deal values Clorox at $12.6 billion, including debt. The deal price is a 12 percent premium to Clorox’s closing price Thursday at $68.43.
