This high-sign for high finance is being installed in front of Milan’s Stock Exchange.

Tongue-in-cheek artist Maurizio Cattelan says he’s not really opposed to capitalism but just wants his marble sculpture on display to give a boost to Milan’s Fashion Week this autumn. Thousands of fashionistas must pass the sculpture to reach the fashion runways in a nearby venue.

Milan Mayor Letizia Moratti agreed. “Milan’s Fashion Week needs the attention.”

The artist has captured plenty of it with his other oddball artworks. He’s best known for shock sculptures including life-like depictions of Pope John Paul II being hit by a meteorite, a child-size Hitler kneeling in prayer and a suicidal squirrel.

After the show the marble figure will be carted off to a gallery or auction house for possible sale to a new owner who wants to make a statement.
