CBS Corp. tapped movie-marketing consultant Terry Press to run its 2-year-old film division, alongside Chief Operating Officer Wolfgang Hammer.

The execs were named co-presidents of CBS Films, which has been without a leader since Amy Baer, the former president and CEO, exited in September after a string of misses. Since then, CBS has adopted a new strategy to acquire movies as well as develop them in-house.

Press, 52, has been consulting at CBS Films while also working on campaigns for movies such as Lionsgate’s “The Hunger Games.” Hammer, 34, will continue to run finance and operations, including film acquisitions.

Press is known in Hollywood for her hard-charging attitude, as well as for her long tenure with top film executive Jeffrey Katzenberg, with whom she worked at Disney and later at DreamWorks SKG.

CBS Films, which feeds sibling premium channel Showtime and also sells movies to third-party networks, stumbled out of the gate. It notched a few modest successes, including Jennifer Lopez’s “The Back-up Plan,” while other releases like “Beastly” and “Faster” were flops.

So far this year, CBS Films has fared better with the February release of “The Woman in Black.” It has racked up $54.2 million after being acquired for $3 million.

The unit’s year-to-date market share is just 2 percent, with a total box-office gross of $60.6 million, according to Boxofficemojo.com.
