Citigroup, the third-biggest US bank, has more than doubled the minimum balance on one of its checking accounts to $15,000 as Chief Executive Officer Vikram Pandit overhauls consumer products.

Users of the New York-based firm’s Citibank Account will have to keep the minimum balance to avoid a $20 monthly fee as of Dec. 9. The previous minimum balance was $6,000 with the same $20 fee.

Customers can use different accounts to make up the balance.
