A new rooftop restaurant with a landscaped, traditional English garden is coming to Chelsea.
The One Group, which opened the Asellina in the Gansevoort Park Avenue Hotel and the STK Las Vegas last month, has just signed a lease to open a 5,000-square-foot restaurant at 530 W. 27 St., in the spot that housed BED New York, The Post has learned.
Tentatively named Up, the rooftop restaurant will have 360 degree views of the city and is set to open in May.
“I saw the opportunity and grabbed it,” said One Group CEO Jonathan Segal, adding that the company is still considering other names — as well as a chef. With the deal, it looks as if West 27th Street’s club days are on the wane, as restaurants move in along with, sources said, a new roundabout theater at 530-542 W. 27 St., an 80,000-square-foot building.
The rooftop restaurant is just one of six new venues that One Group plans to open by June.
Separately, Schwan’s Home Delivery, which bills itself as the largest direct-to-home food service in the US, is “urbanizing” its brand, according to Kelli Thielges, Schwan’s product manager.
Schwan’s, which started in rural Minnesota in 1952, partnered with Fresco by Scotto two years ago to launch six frozen food entrees — which will now include eggplant and zucchini pie and lasagna with meatball sauce.
The Scotto line — which has sold more than 1.4 million units since its launch — helped Schwan expand to the suburbs and now, it hopes, to the city, Thielges said. Marion Scotto — mother of “Good Day New York’s” Rosanna Scotto, and owner of Fresco by Scotto — also previewed her new baked ziti dish yesterday, which will be added to the Fresco menu in March.
Fresco by Scotto is always a scene. Actor Henry Winkler was recently spotted there giving a big hug to director Ron Howard before they sat down to a reunion dinner. They were both on “Happy Days.” In addition, Anthony Goncalves, the chef/owner of 42, on the 42nd floor of the Ritz-Carlton in White Plains, has gone back to his Portuguese roots to launch a new tapas restaurant, Bellota, within 42.
