Procrastinators are not the only ones out shopping for that last-minute gift on Christmas Eve.

Credit card fraudsters wait until the most frenzied shopping day of the year to strike, according to Riskified, an e-commerce fraud prevention company, which claims that Christmas Eve has the highest rate of fraud of any other day of the holiday season.

“It’s a logical time for a fraudster to attempt to buy online or pick up in store, because the teller is going to rush through the process and not look as closely,” Riskified spokesman Stephen Fidgeon told the Post.

“They also might be looking to sneak charges by the owner of the stolen card, as consumers with a ham in the oven might not pay attention to a fraud alert until later,” Fidgeon said.
