Citigroup Inc., the third-largest US bank, settled a claim for almost $12 million in damages made by Larry Hagman, the actor’s attorney said.

Hagman, who played oil tycoon JR Ewing in the 1980s television show “Dallas,” abandoned a case against New York-based Citigroup in state court in Los Angeles on April 15, filings show.

His attorney, Phil Aidikoff of Beverly Hills, Calif.-based Aidikoff, Uhl & Bakhtiari, said in a phone interview that Hagman had settled with the bank on confidential terms. Alexander Samuelson, a spokesman for New York-based Citigroup, declined to comment.

The bank had been ordered in October to pay almost $12 million in damages to Hagman and charities chosen by him after losing a Financial Industry Regulatory Authority arbitration ruling. A Los Angeles judge dismissed that decision on Feb. 9, leading to Hagman’s appeal.

“Mr. Hagman is very pleased that the matter is settled,” Aidikoff said.

Citigroup today reported a $3 billion first-quarter profit.
