US regulators are close to signing off on Comcast’s acquisition of a majority of NBC Universal from General Electric, sources said. Comcast is expecting to hear from the feds as soon as today, they said.

When the deal was announced in December 2009, it was valued at $30 billion.

Officials at the Federal Communications Commission spent the weekend making last-minute revisions to an order approving the deal, and the Justice Department also has finished its review.

If the FCC’s commissioners don’t vote by 5 p.m. today, the item must be put on the FCC’s agenda for next Tuesday. All five commissioners must agree on the deal.

Comcast has agreed to conditions including providing more space on its systems for independently owned channels and guaranteeing the independence of NBC’s news operations.
