Discovery Communications, owner of the namesake cable-television channel and Animal Planet, reported a 76 percent jump in fourth-quarter profit as advertising and subscription revenue increased.
Net income climbed to $336 million, or 86 cents a share, from $191 million, or 45 cents, a year ago, the company said.
Discovery makes about half of its total revenue from fees paid by cable- and satellite-TV providers to distribute its channels, with most of the rest coming from ads. The company is also part owner of Oprah Winfrey’s OWN cable network.
