Even as major broadcast-TV networks complain about a new ad-skipping feature offered by Dish Network, the satellite-TV operator plans to promote it — with TV ads.
Dish is rolling out an array of television, radio, newspaper and social media ads to spread the word about its new digital video recorder dubbed the “Hopper.” A feature of the new DVR lets viewers skip commercials on most national prime-time shows aired on the major broadcast networks.
Dish plans to spend two to three times advertising the new DVR than it has spent on past marketing campaigns, Dish Chief Executive Joe Clayton said in an interview.
