The Dow Jones Industrial Average shrugged off early losses to close up 140 points Wednesday — its third consecutive day of gains.

The Dow was up 140.88, or 1.27 percent, to 11,246.73.

Headlines from Europe drove much of the day’s trading, with US stocks increasing on the belief that Germany and France would maintain their support for debt-plagued Greece.
