Shrek’s next adventure could take him to FarmVille.
DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg has joined the board of social-gaming firm Zynga, bringing together one of the fastest-growing Internet companies with one of Hollywood’s top animation studios.
The move hints at a number of potential entertainment and gaming partnerships between DreamWorks, the force behind “Shrek” and “Kung Fu Panda,” and Zynga, whose popular games include FarmVille, CityVille and Mafia Wars.
“Jeffrey and I have been friends for some time, and I knew he’d be a great fit for the board after he suggested that the blockbuster of 2011 could be ‘ShrekVille,’ ” Zynga CEO Mark Pincus said in a statement today.
Zynga’s other board members include former Facebook executive Owen Van Natta, LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman and Pincus.
Pincus said that Katzenberg’s first task is to find a seventh board member for Zynga and joked — seemingly — that Mike Myers and Jack Black might be interested. Pincus also kidded about getting 1,500 tickets to the “Kung Fu Panda 2” premiere.
