Dear John: I have read your column for many years and hoped you could answer a question for me.

I’ve had a fixed-rate credit card with Bank of America since 2004 with a perfect payment history. I received a letter recently stating that the terms of my account were being changed from fixed to a variable rate.

I called the company and confirmed this to be true. Can they do this? And if so, is there any recourse available to the consumer? J.K.

Dear J.K. They can do it and have been, despite the fuss Congress is making.

But so what? Cancel that credit card, get one from another company (preferably with a good rewards program) and pay off your debt each month.

After they lose a good customer, Bank of America will be begging you to come back.

Send your questions to Dear John, The N.Y. Post, 1211 Ave. of the Americas, N.Y., N.Y., 10036, or john.crudele@nypost.com.
