Some of the economy’s statistics (like home sales and durable goods) are weakening. But that’s probably not going to dissuade the Federal Reserve from raising interest rates on Wednesday.
The Fed’s policymaking committee meets Tuesday and Wednesday, and there is almost a near certainty that the federal funds rate will go up by 0.25 percent, to 2 percent.
There’s still a good chance of at least one more rate hike this year, probably in September. There’s less of a chance of two more (with the other one in December) for a total of four increases in 2018.
