Exxon Mobil posted a smaller gain in first-quarter profit yesterday than analysts estimated as health-care legislation increased costs and domestic refineries operated at a loss. Net income rose 38 percent to $6.3 billion, or $1.33 a share. Shares fell 53 cents to $68.66.
