The Giants have upstaged their Eastern Conference rival Dallas Cowboys by scoring the most financial yardage for revenue gain of any club in the National Football League.
Big Blue’s franchise value rose by a stunning 10 percent last season, compared to a modest 2 percent gain for the Cowboys, according to the new NFL financial scoreboard in Forbes magazine.
Forbes said the value of the Giants jumped to $1.3 billion, centered on its new stadium naming deal at the Meadowlands.
The owners of the Giants — investors John Mara and Steven Tisch — landed a deal with MetLife to sponsor the stadium for 25 years for $400 million, a record price for a stadium naming rights deal in the NFL.
What’s more, MetLife’s deep-pocketed sponsorship also pushed New York’s other hometown team, the Jets, out front in the team-value race because the Jets share the stadium with the Giants.
The value of the Jets, owned by philanthropist Robert Wood Johnson IV, soared by 7 percent to $1.22 billion due to the stadium deal, Forbes said. The Giants and Jets will split costs for playing in the $1.4 billion arena.
The Cowboys once again were ranked the most valuable NFL franchise at $1.85 billion, with the highest revenue at $406 million and the most operating profit at $119 million.
In second place were the Washington Redskins at $1.55 billion, unchanged from a year ago, with revenue of $352 million and operating profit of $65.5 million. The New England Patriots placed third, valued at $1.4 billion, with $333 million in revenue and $42.9 million in operating profit.
The Giants ranked fourth, and the Jets were fifth, in value and sales. Big Blue revenue was $293 million with $40.6 million in profits, while Gang Green had $285 million revenue and $25.1 million in profits.
The Giants also had the second-highest average club-seat price at $465 each.
Total revenue for all NFL teams was $8.3 billion, with operating profit was $979 million. Gate revenues at all stadiums totaled $1.8 billion, for an average ticket price of $106.
