There’s Brooklyn retail, and then there’s “we’re so Brooklyn our handbags, pasta sauces and water tower model kits are certified ‘Brooklyn Made.’ ”
That kind of cred doesn’t come easy — and it’s coming to Williamsburg with the second outpost of gift shop By Brooklyn, set to debut on a still-gritty stretch of Grand Street, Catherine Curan learned.
“I think it’s really important that when people are thinking of Brooklyn, they can buy a product that is in fact from Brooklyn,” said By Brooklyn founder Gaia DiLoreto.
She opened her first store in Carroll Gardens four years ago. Her aim was to translate Brooklyn’s cool factor into a coveted brand that boosts local manufacturing and employment.
