Doug Whitman, the 54-year-old founder of California hedge fund Whitman Capital, was convicted yesterday of securities fraud and conspiracy charges by a Manhattan federal jury.

Prosecutors had charged Whitman with four counts of conspiracy and securities fraud in illegally using inside sources to get advance information on the financial performance of Google, Polycom and Marvell Technology Group between 2006 and 2009.

Whitman faces a maximum 25 years in prison.
