A gang of current and former “Saturday Night Live” comedians, including Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, have joined together to do a video promoting the proposal for a new Consumer Protection Agency, which is supposed to act as watchdog over consumer financial products like credit cards and mortgages.
The agency – the brainchild of Harvard professor Elizabeth Warren – has sparked a political turf war. Republican Senator Bob Corker wants it housed at the Federal Reserve and so does Ben Bernanke, according to sources. Democratic Senator Chris Dodd was pushing for an independent agency, akin to the original Obama plan, but has backpedaled amid resistance.
