Here are the nuts and bolts for Friday’s employment report.
The “experts” are expecting job growth of around 180,000. That would be a healthy gain over the 128,000 new jobs reported for October.
And the unemployment rate is expected to stay at 3.6%.
There shouldn’t be a larger number of phantom jobs added to the report for companies the government is guessing — but can’t prove — have quietly come into existence. So the number that is reported should be pretty pure.
But keep a look out for revisions made to previous job reports. Even at just 128,000, October’s number came in higher than was expected. That figure could be revised even higher.
Large revisions have become commonplace — and are suspicious.
