JPMorgan Chase & Co. said it will accept physical gold as collateral in some financial transactions, a move that reinforces the precious metal’s allure as an alternative currency.

Investors who want to borrow securities or cash over the short term from J.P. Morgan can now put up gold.

Gold futures closed at $1,347.60 an ounce.
