Peter Kaplan, former longtime editor-in-chief of the New York Observer, has been tapped to be the new editorial director of the Fairchild Fashion Group, the Condé Nast unit that oversees trade publication Women’s Wear Daily.

Kaplan left the Observer about a year after its takeover by real-estate mogul Jared Kushner and had for the past year been the editorial creative director at Condé Nast Traveler.
