Coach Inc., the largest US maker of luxury leather handbags, accused Kmart Corp. of selling suitcases and satchel bags that infringe its trademarks and copyrights.
Coach filed a lawsuit yestreday in Manhattan federal court, saying a Coach representative purchased from a midtown Manhattan Kmart store an infringing luggage set.
“The luggage set was examined by Coach and found to be counterfeit merchandise,” New York-based Coach says in the complaint.
The suit seeks unspecified damages and an order barring Kmart from infringing Coach trademarks.
A Kmart spokeswoman didn’t immediately return a call for comment.
