More giant movie screens could lead to massive box-office revenues, according to a new report.

The number of large movie screens worldwide, like those in IMAX theaters, are set to quadruple to 2,600 over the next five years, up from the 653 installed by the end of 2011, UK-based Dodona Research reports, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

With the higher ticket prices that these bigger-screen experiences command, the 170 million seats in these theaters, up from 42 million in 2011, could generate more than $850 million in box-office revenues.

Dodona’s calculations also suggest that 16.75 percent of all movie-goers might be willing to pay $5 extra for tickets, further boosting box-office revenues by $1 billion in the US and an additional $2 billion internationally.
