Discovery Communications named television industry veteran Peter Liguori as chief operating officer.

Liguori, fresh off a stint serving as a consultant to Comcast in its merger with NBC Universal, replaces Mark Hollinger, who last week was named president and CEO of Discovery Networks International.

Liguori previously served as Fox’s president of entertainment before leaving earlier this year. (News Corp. owns both Fox and The Post.)

As COO, Liguori will oversee Discovery’s marketing, business affairs, communications and production teams.

He will also serve as the chief liaison for Discovery Kids and OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, the company’s joint ventures with Hasbro and Oprah Winfrey. Emerging networks is a strength for Liguori — Fox’s FX Network became a top five basic cable network achieving ratings and revenue highs under his leadership.
