“Battle: Los Angeles” fought its way to the top of the weekend box office, capturing $36 million in sales, according to studio estimates yesterday.
The film stars Aaron Eckhart as a veteran soldier leading a platoon of Marines in combat against invading aliens.
In its second week of release, the animated Western spoof “Rango” came in second, with $23.1 million, for a $68.7 million total.
“Red Riding Hood,” starring Amanda Seyfried, debuted at No. 3, with $14.1 million.
