Meetup, the social media networking Web site, has some heavyweight competition.
Former NFL star Terrell “T.O.” Owens and “Bachelorette” finalist Peter Kraus are expected in New York this week on a media tour touting their “friendmaking” social platform Hive.
The two VIPs are both investors in Hive. Owens previously signed a sponsorship deal in 2014 with a fantasy sports platform.
Hive is promoted as a sort of alternative to Meetup events.
“Instead of matching people by profile like a dating app, Hive connects users by interests, ranging from design and dog training to finance and football as well as by location,” according to a
promotional note on Hive.
The platform also allows users to choose whom they meet in person “instead of paying to create a Meetup event with a roomful of strangers.”
