Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said yesterday that if elected, he would select a new Federal Reserve chairman, replacing Ben Bernanke, countering advice Tuesday from top economic adviser Glenn Hubbard that Bernanke should be considered for a third term.

Romney also told Fox Business Network he is opposed to another round of quantitative easing by the central bank.

Fox Business Network is owned by News Corp., which also owns the New York Post.

As to who should head the central bank, Romney said his view “has always been [that] I would want to select someone who is a new member.”
