Mortgage servicers came under fire across the US yesterday from state regulators, Congress and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

* Attorneys general in California and Illinois subpoenaed Lender Processing Services and Nationwide Title Clearing as part of probes into alleged “robo-signing” in the mortgage servicing industry.

* The New York Fed is investigating allegations that Goldman Sachs’ mortgage-servicing arm, Litton Loan of Houston, failed to conduct appropriate reviews before denying borrowers a chance to lower their payments, the Financial Times reported.

* Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), the top Democrat on the GOP-controlled House Oversight Committee, is pushing for subpoenas of six firms, accusing them of failing to provide documents about their foreclosure processes.
