Microsoft’s profit exceeded analysts’ estimates, thanks to cost controls amid weak demand for Windows 8 PCs.

Net income in the quarter rose 19 percent to $6.06 billion, or 72 cents a share. Revenue rose 18 percent to $20.5 billion, Microsoft said.

Microsoft closed down 3 cents, to $28.79, in regular trading, but rebounded after hours.
