For New York tech entrepreneurs, failure has to be an option.

The bumper crop of Big Apple startups funded in 2011 will face culling over the next year, with just a fifth of those companies getting more venture money, a new report found. The national average is about a third.

“Companies that have been seeded will have challenges raising money in subsequent rounds,” a CB Insights report said.
