Shares of New York Times Co. jumped on Monday on market rumors that Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim will seek to acquire the company.
The company’s shares rose 7.4 percent to close at $11.75 after being up as high as 10 percent earlier in the day.
Slim’s spokesperson denied the speculation, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The Times was not immediately available for comment.
