World oil prices jumped Thursday after Iran downed a US drone.
US West Texas Intermediate crude rose almost 6 percent to close at $56.65 a barrel, while Brent crude, the global benchmark, soared about 4.5 percent to $64.58.
One expert warned that oil prices could soar to $150 a barrel if a war breaks out between the US and Iran.
“A limited war would likely push oil prices above $100 per barrel, while a major confrontation would likely drive prices above $150,” Henry Rome of the Eurasia Group told CNBC.
He added that all-out conflict “would have a significant impact on commodity prices and could trigger instability beyond the Gulf.”
