When Terry Lundgren steps down as chief executive of Macy’s next March, some might compare him to the Energizer bunny.
The average Fortune 100 CEO is in charge for about nine years, and “I’ve outlasted most,” Lundgren told our Lisa Fickenscher. Lundgren, who will hand over the reins to Macy’s veteran Jeff Gennette next year, will be 65 and have held his job for 14 years.
There is no mandatory retirement age at Macy’s, a spokesman said, adding, “It has been Terry’s personal plan to retire from CEO duties at 65.”
