Procter & Gamble has recalled some 30 aerosol spray hair care products — including products from big-name brands Herbal Essences and Pantene — due to a cancer-causing chemical.
The affected items, which include an assortment of dry shampoos and dry conditioners, could contain benzene, the company said Friday.
The recall also covers these products from other popular brands Hair Food, Old Spice and Aussie.
Benzene is classified as a carcinogen that could cause leukemia and blood disorders, the Cincinnati-based company said.
It’s Procter & Gamble’s second such recall within a month.
In November, the maker of Tide and Pampers told consumers to throw out their Old Spice and Secret aerosol deodorants for possibly containing benzene. The company said it would offer refunds for more than a dozen Old Spice and Secret aerosol brands.
Over the summer, Johnson & Johnson recalled spray-on Aveeno and Neutrogenasunscreens for carcinogen risks.

In a statement, Procter & Gamble said “daily exposure to benzene in the recalled products at the levels detected in our testing would not be expected to cause adverse health consequences,” adding that it’s recalling the products “out of an abundance of caution.”
