Stocks slid last week, following weak quarterly results.

For the week, the Dow Jones industrial average fell 1.8 percent, the Standard & Poor’s 500 was down 1.5 percent, and the Nasdaq drooped 0.6 percent.

Investors’ attention may have been diverted from the market by Hurricane Sandy, which could make landfall along the East Coast, including New York, this week. The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq said they plan on business as usual.
