Dear John: I’ve been reading about things you’ve done in the past. Maybe you could help me with a serious situation soon.
It’s about my next-door neighbor. Here is a list of what she’s done to my wife and me.
1. Plays loud music, can’t hear the TV.
2. Bangs on wall with a hammer, making 13 holes in our wall.
3. Threatens to put a contract on us.
4. She hammers our apartment door.
5. Her son puts hair grease on our door.
Housing is aware of this but they claim they have nowhere to put her. We are waiting for her to be evicted. But it’s taking too long.
My wife and I have an order of protection against her.
My wife is 65. I’m 72. We can’t deal with this anymore. I hope you can speed up the eviction process. P.S.
Dear P.S.: You shouldn’t have had to put up with this for this long. Nobody should.
You live in a public housing facility owned by New York City. I called the city housing authority on your behalf and was told: “We are currently pursuing legal action against this tenant for harassment of her neighbors. We have assigned a tenant representative for the case to ensure her rights are protected and we can come to the best arrangement for all parties involved,” the spokesperson said.
Big deal! Meanwhile, this elderly couple have to put up with this nonsense.
So I called the cops. It turns out there was apparently an arrest in March of the son. But since this letter came to me after that date, it seems the problem is still going on.
Let me know how this turns out.
