New York’s Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board is expected to rule this week on whether $15 billion hedge fund Renaissance Technologies cheated the state out of unemployment insurance premiums.

But no matter what the decision, the loser is expected to appeal. In 2009, RenTech was found to be nickel-and-diming the state on unemployment insurance payments by incorrectly classifying its security guards as contractors rather than employees.
