Shares of Restoration Hardware gained 7.2 percent, to $27.62, in heavy trading on Wednesday, following speculation it might sell itself to its counterpart hot home-furnishings headquarters, Williams-Sonoma.
Williams-Sonoma also gained on the rumor, up 2.7 percent, to $53.64.
Year to date, Restoration has lost more than 65 percent of its value.
