In the 10 years since the 9/11 attacks, not all equity markets returns are created equal.

While the Dow Jones industrial average has had returns of 1386.28 points, or 14.4 percent. The broader S&P index lagged with returns of 68.45 percent, or 6.3 percent, for the last decade.

The tech-laden Nasdaq was the clear winner with a stellar 780.29 point, or 46.2 percent, return.
