Russia sold most of its holding of US government securities right around of time of the Helsinki summit.
How rude of the Russians!
Russia sold about 80 percent of its $80 billion in US debt. The selling reportedly took place over a two-month period starting in April, when we were sanctioning Russia.
Russia didn’t hold enough US bonds for it to matter. But the selling is a good indication of why we put ourselves in a vulnerable position by allowing governments, especially Beijing, to become major creditors of America.
